Cotswold
English Morris Dancing dates back hundreds of years, and is mentioned in Chaucer and Shakespeare. Capering dancers have been a traditional part of street festivals and holiday celebrations. In England, particularly in the Cotswold area, each village or town would develop its own individual style, passed down from father to son. In America, teams gather historical dances from several villages, and even create their own new styles, continuing the tradition of local variety. Music, colorful costumes, bells, waving hankies and clashing sticks all contribute to highlight the graceful athletics and intricate patterns of the dance.
